A Fabrication-Ready package includes the core information a professional shop typically needs: 2D dimensioned drawings, a quantified Cut List (BOM), clear weld symbols, and the 3D model file (.STEP). This helps reduce guesswork and supports a smoother handover into production.
Do you offer Certified Professional Engineering (PE) services?
No. We specialize in low-complexity, non-structural items like furniture, brackets, and utility frames. We do not provide stamping for certified load ratings, building permits, or legal sign-off. If your project requires certification, you'll need to consult a licensed PE.
What files do I receive for Sheet Metal Flat Pattern Service?
You receive the 2D unfolded profile as a .DXF file that is ready for laser or plasma cutting, along with the corresponding 3D model and a PDF specifying bend angles. Our flat patterns account for material thickness and bend radius for precise fit-up.
Can you design from my hand sketch or a photo?
Yes. Our 3D Modelling & Design Concepts service is perfect for this. We take your idea, sketch, or photo and convert it into a precise, verifiable 3D CAD model, which is the necessary first step toward creating fabrication drawings.
What is the difference between Structural Steel Designs and Custom Bracket Design?
Structural Steel Designs cover larger welded/bolted assemblies like shelves, machine frames, and benches. Custom Bracket Design focuses on small, specific mounting solutions like L-brackets, Z-channels, or offset supports for specific components.
Process, Timing, and Pricing
How is pricing determined for a custom design project?
Pricing is based on the estimated time required for the complexity of the design and drafting work. We provide a fixed quote upfront after reviewing your initial concept, scope, and required deliverables. There are no hourly surprises once the quote is accepted.
What is your typical turnaround time for a design package?
Simple projects (e.g., custom brackets) can often be completed in 3-7 business days. Larger weldments (e.g., shelving and furniture) typically require consultation.
How does the Design Consultation service work?
You book a consultation call where we review your project's material, joinery, and assembly strategy. We provide expert advice on optimizing your design for cost-effective fabrication (DFM), saving you time and money before drafting even begins.
Do you include revisions in the initial quoted price?
Yes. All projects include one round of minor revisions after the initial design draft or 3D model is presented. Significant changes to the original scope or material selection after drafting has begun may incur additional fees.
What if I change my mind after the project has started?
If the brief, dimensions, materials, functionality, or design direction changes after work has commenced, we may treat that as a variation. Additional fees, revised timing, or updated deliverables may apply before we continue. Completed work to that point is still chargeable because it was produced based on the approved scope at the time.
What if I am still not happy with the design after the included revision?
The included revision is intended for minor changes within the approved scope and original design direction. If you want a different concept, multiple alternative options, or a substantial redesign, we can quote that as a new stage of work. Subject to any non-excludable rights under Australian law, dissatisfaction alone does not create an entitlement to unlimited revisions or a refund for work already performed.
What happens if my fabricator finds an error in the drawing?
We prepare our drawings to match the agreed-upon 3D model. If a verifiable drafting error is found that prevents fabrication, we will correct it and issue a revised drawing at no charge. However, if the issue arises because site conditions changed, measurements supplied to us were inaccurate, the fabricator prefers a different method, or the scope has changed since approval, that is not treated as a drafting error and may require a paid variation.
Can I get a refund if I decide not to use the final design?
If the agreed design and deliverables have been prepared in accordance with the approved brief, a later decision not to proceed with fabrication or not to use the design does not usually entitle the client to a refund for the work already completed. If there is a genuine issue with the service, our remedy is generally limited to correcting the deliverable, resupplying the affected service, or providing an appropriate refund where required by law.
Material and Manufacturing
Do you handle the manufacturing or finding a fabricator?
No. We are a design-only consultancy. We deliver the digital files and drawings. You are responsible for contracting the manufacturing. However, we can advise on what type of shop (e.g., sheet metal vs. general welder) is best suited for your design.
Can you suggest the best material for my Outdoor Storage & Furniture design?
Yes. During the Design Consultation phase, we advise on appropriate materials, such as aluminum for lightweight projects, stainless steel for coastal areas, or Cor-Ten steel for a rust-patina look, based on your budget and environment.
How do I ensure the 3D Print File is ready for my vendor?
We deliver an optimized .STL file with confirmed shell thickness and clean geometry, which is the standard file format for commercial 3D printing services. The file is generally suitable for upload to most vendors, and we can estimate size requirements for your prototyping needs.
Will you help me reduce welding and machining time in my design?
Absolutely. Our plans prioritize Design for Manufacturing (DFM). This often means replacing complex welds with simple bolted connections (including self-aligning features), utilizing standard material sizes, and favoring laser-cut shapes over complex machining.
Are your designs built to specific standards (e.g., metric vs. imperial)?
Yes. We can generate all drawings and cut lists in either Metric (mm) or Imperial (inches), and they can be prepared to comply with any required standards, such as AS 1657. We confirm this preference during the initial project briefing.
